Reliving 16th Century splendor at the Alcazar Colonial costumes exhibitionThe Alcazar Museum of the Colonial City presents every Saturday evening at the Plaza de Espana, Noches Vivas del Alcazar, reliving the times of the splendor of the Alcazar Palace. Actors in 16th century attire, bring back the days of the court of Don Diego Colon and Maria de Toledo. The costumes have been designed by leading Dominican designers, including Leonel Lirio, Hipolito Pena, Robert Flores, Giannina Azar, Magaly Tiburcio, Jorge Diep, Luis Rivas, Berkola, Carla Carbonell, Luis Dominguez and Carlos de Moya. Colombian food festival The Intercontinental V Centenario and the new Holiday Inn Santo Domingo are dedicating the last week of November to Colombian culture and gastronomy. Gastronomy, Macondo and Caribbean Music will run Monday, 23 November through Tuesday, 1 December, featuring a gastronomy festival, performances by Son Bolero of Medellin and Swing Latino music groups, and a photo exhibition by Leo Matiz. Comedy at Casa de Teatro One of the most popular comedies by Argentinian playwright Hugo Marcos will be staged at Casa de Teatro in Santo Domingo this week. Starting on Wednesday, 25 November, the comedy that hails from successful presentations at the Navarrete Culture House First Festival in the US and the IX Candilejas Theater Festival in New York will open for Dominican audiences. It is being performed by the Las Tablas theater group of New York and is directed by Yolanny Rodriguez and Zulaika Velazquez. After Santo Domingo, it will move on to Santiago. Artisans Fair The Alternative Handcraft Fair is set for the Plazoleta Fray Bartolome de las Casas in the Colonial City, at Padre Billini and Arzobispo Merino, across from La Bricciola Restaurant. Proceeds of sales will benefit the Fundacion Hogar de Ninas Madelaes, a girls orphanage. Christmas carols in Punta Cana As part of commemorations of the 40th anniversary of the Puntacana Group, founders of the Punta Cana tourism area, the National Symphony Orchestra and the National Choir will perform a gala concert at the Basilica Nuestra Senora de la Altagracia in the city of Higuey. Maestro Jose Antonio Molina will conduct the orchestra, and Jose Enrique Espin the choir. The event will take place on 11 December at 7pm. The Group contributes to the culture and art in the province of La Altagracia through its Foundation. During the performance, Maestro Molina will release new compositions and will feature Christmas classics from all over the world, as well as Latin American and Dominican music.Maestro Molina is the most outstanding Dominican orchestra director of all times. He has served as the director and arranger for the Pavarotti & Friends concerts since 1996 and has directed the National Symphony Orchestra since March this year.
