When I went down there, the airline told me I just needed a birth certificate and driver's license, so I didn't get a passport. I didn't have a problem until I came back into the US, at JFK - the guy at the customs desk hassled me about it, saying that he could deny entry and all this. So just to avoid that hassle, and to have the nifty stamp, I will just get a passport for the next time.
