Re: Questions about Hotel "On the Waterfront".
I was at the On The Waterfront Hotel for Thanksgiving in 1998 a couple months ago, although I was only a frequent guest in their restaurant and did not stay there.
The hotel is situated next to the Casa Marina Hotel (which has its own beach and is open to the public). It has tremendous views of the bay area as it is situated on the cliffs at the water's edge.
Their pool is unimpressive but adequate and practically private, as the hotel capacity is very limited. I would choose this hotel if I wanted privacy, quiet, great food, excellent views, a good central location, and wasn't particularly interested in other amenities but wanted a place a bit more upscale than just a basic motel. All the hotels in that area are situated along the cliffs but this hotel has the advantage of being on the end where the bay turns inward so it provides a more panoramic view and has a new deck that is literally at the edge.
If their rooms and service are anything like their restaurant, you are in for a treat. Their restaurant has excellent food and service, perhaps the best in all of Sosua. We asked around for the best dining in town, and in our opinion, nothing else came close. We also spoke with other restaurant owners in the area and they concurred.
I did not tour their rooms, but they were situated in back of the restaurant in a gated property that reminded me of a back yard.
I mentioned the restaurant in my review of Casa Marina, which can be found here on this web site in the resort reviews area. I cannot say enough about the quality of the employees, the service, and the food (dinners only were sampled) at the restaurant, which I believe reflects on the property.
I must note that a sign at the property advertised rooms starting at $28 for a single. If you were to stay there, you would still be able to walk onto the beautiful property of the all-inclusive Casa Marina hotel, enjoy their nightly entertainment and beach. Of course, you could also stay at the Sosua by the sea, located on the other side of the Casa Marina hotel, which has a bit nicer pool, and still have the option of eating at the On the Waterfront. There is also a review of this property in the resort database on this website.
I would describe this property is a small and upscale place with attention detail, from the limited oberservations I was able to make. I can say also that their bar was well stocked with top shelf everything and it made a pleasant place to spend happy hour or the evening, quiet, yet somewhat elegant.
