Paper, pencils etc for the Children

Everytime we travel we take clothing,treats etc. I have ben told that the D.R. schools in the villages are desperate for crayons, paper and pencils. We've given up 1 suitcase each for these items that my daughters and friends have donated. Anyone know where exactly these villages are? I've been told that they stop at one (school) on the Rumrunners tour? Any other tours? Hope all this stuff is easy to distribute! Leaving Tues for the North coast.

can they be dropped off at/near the Puerto Plata airport or Sosua?

Hi Dee- We were in PP last May and took down a very large suitcase full of pencils for the children.We went on the rum runners tour and we got to stop at two schools and a True Dominican home up in the hills with three children there. The kids loved receiving the pencils and we also took Wherther's candies and they gave us their hearts in return!What an experience! We stayed at the Haciendas Resorts and contacted them before travelling down to let them know our intentions.They help sponser an Orphanage in the town of PP and they took us there for an afternoon with the kids! That was truely a great experience as well.The Orphanage is run by Nuns and the Kids(all girls)were also happy to receive our gift.Many service groups in Canada will help donate items as well if you let them know your intentions. We hope to go down again in December of this year with our children so they can experience this great feeling of giving to the kids in this world that are needier than others! Check out our webpage!
