Hello, We can not tell you how bad mosquitos will be, what we did was carry Coppertone Bug and Sun lotion. We used it after every shower or long swim and we did not get sunburned or mosquito bitten. Hope this helps.

Does anyone have anymore info about the Catalonia. I have read where the beaches are more trash than sand. Is that true? Are they in full operation with all facilities yet? I will be there Feb 7 and would like to know.

I have been watching this board and others for about a month now, and I don't remember anyone saying that mosquitoes were a problem. I will be going to Barcelo Bavaro in - T minus 6 days and counting - and if someone has experienced mosquitoes there I'd like to know about it. I've been to several Caribbean islands and I've yet to see mosquitoes half as bad as the ones we have here in New Hampshire in the Spring.

Dominican mosquitos "don't" sleep! So take a repellent with you. They're known as a "I gotta yah" before you even know it, especially at night.

I don't know about Barcelo Bavaro but when I stayed at another resort in the area a few years ago they had insect fogging machines operating inconspicously in the background at dusk so mosquitoes were never a problem. The same may well be true of the Barcelo Bavaro. Mosquitoes are a worldwide problem wherever there is the potential for standing water. It's no worse in the DR than anywhere else.

I was in DR for two weeks during the last week of December and first week of January. The first night in Puerto Plata I did not use repellent and had 17 bites on each leg the next day. Punta Cana was not much better... but by then I had learned my lesson and used repellent. Be sure to bring something on your trip or buy it down there!!

I just spent 2 weeks in the Playa Dorada area Jan 6-20 and only saw I mosquito and had no bites. It will likely depend what area your visiting.

PS just in case your wondering I didn't spend much time in my room either.

Default Never saw one or got any bites!

We were in PP last May and spent most of our time outside. We went on the Rum Runners tour (which is really back roading and toured some of the mountains)At night we were at the beach and never had one bite on either of us and never saw any mosquitos! Maybe it depends on which time of year you go!We stayed on Cofresi Beach at the Hacienda Resorts
