Default Easter Holiday Question

Do the people from the Dominican Republic celebrate the easter holiday on the same days that we do here in Canada?

Yes and a lot of dominicans spend the week before Easter (semana santa) at the beach. The water sports are prohibited, I don't go to the beach anymore during the semana santa. Driving to the beach is a nightmare, the beach is a nightmare....

Yes. We arrived last year on Easter Saturday and the hotel was JAMMED! Much dismay on our part, but on Easter Sunday afternoon many checked out leaving the hotel at a much more reasonable energy level!

Hi Virginia,

I'm going to Puerto Plata this April 3-10 (the 3rd being Holy Saturday)... do I need to worry about having no beach access because of the crowds that week??

Thanks, Phyllis

On Saturday and Sunday morning the beach will be as full as it gets, but note that Playa Dorada is a big beach, so it's not as bad as one would think. After Sunday pm, the locals head back home and the rest of the week you get to share only with the foreign tourists.

Thanks for the info, and I think I will like to meet some local people and get to know their culture, so I won't mind the beach being busy!

Thanks for the info, but I will be there the week after, so I don't expect any problems with crowds.
