I am only twenty four days from my trip and want to make sure I miss nothing I should Know!

If all could post what they think is the most important thing to know prior to travel that would be cool!!!

Thanks, I am so looking forward to the month in the DR. Bill

Default North Coast

I am going to be staying in Confressi, Puerto Plata.

Just want to know what others found important to know or wish they knew before the trip!

Thanks Bill

We stayed on Cofresi at the Hacienda Resorts.Loved every minute there and can't wait to get back there! I guess we wish we could have taken more goods down for the people we met.If we had only known. It is amazing what you feel like when you hand a small dominican child a small gift or toy.Especially when we take so much for granted every day. Make sure you take a big heart because the DR has some of the best people I have ever met.! Have an excellent trip! One more thing I would recommend taking is lots of Immodium! I know we used it because we ate a lot of their fruit and the Pina Coladas act like a laxative sometimes if you drink too many! Have fun!

I agree with one of the writers---be prepared for stomach/system upsets. She is correct about the cause---it may be the food, but it is the coconut cream in the fancy drinks, plus all the fabulous fruit you eat all day long (this is according to our tour guide). I was very run down last year, but got very ill for one whole day. When you're only in Paradise for 1 week... Fortunately we were at the 5* Riu Merengue & they have an American trained doctor there---he came to my room twice & finally gave me a needle of something---probably a strong anti-biotic. We were 9 in the group & 3 of us used the doctor--others suffered ear problems because of the surf. So take a prescription antibiotic with you if you are prone to stomach upsets. It is scary getting very sick in a 3rd world country---which I love by the way! We're going back this year for our 3rd trip!

Bill, Go with a open mind, use common sense, see the sites, meet the natives (they're fantastic), and ENJOY! Say, Hi to your Dad for me.
