Default money exchange

Does anyone know for sure if the banks will cash Canadian travellers cheques in Puerto Plata? We were in Cancun last year and had some trouble.

If you are skeptical, get American Express Travelers Checks. They are accepted universally.

I have heard that you must have your passport in order to cash travellers cheques.

actually I would never take travler's checks to the DR. It is not easy to cash them and you normally don't get as good of exchange rate.

Hi, just returned from POP. We were able to cash travellers chqs, but only at certain banks. Not all accept them. We had no trouble finding one that would. We also cashed in Sosua. 2 of us had passports, and 3 did not. We were all able to do so, if you do not have a passport, then you must have a photo Drivers ID...
