Elbert, LARIMAR is mined only at one location near Barahona in the SW corner of this Island. There is a river that flows from the minesite (which is run by a syndicate),and after heavy rains pieces of larimar end up on the beach at the village of Baharuco.The local children & adults will be eager to sell you pebbles of larimar, or you can just look for yourself. I always buy some as well as look as it is only fair to encourage these very poor people.I have never had the opportunity to visit the minesite, which I was told is accessible by horse, or 4X4. The quality varies a lot and the darkest blue commands the best price. Hope this is of some help. Bob.
