Re: Visitors Visa
Just to let you know it is not easy to get a visitor's visa for anyone in the DR at this time. Apparently Canada has frozen on giving out Canadian visas. My sister-in-law who lives in the DR and is married to a German for 7 years, owns property, owns vehicles, has money in the bank, has a child, tried to come for the holidays at Chistmas time to visit her brother and I and was denied a visitors visa. We sent her all our papers - photocopies of citizenships, employment records, an affidavit from the lawyer and she spent 700 pesos, plus transportation to travel to Santo Domingo, plus her time, plus all the running around gathering all documents down there and was only told - she does not qualify. So we have been communicaiting with Haiti - main consulate- and with many other visa lawyers here. Haiti said that the visa immigration officer felt she did not have evnough strong ties in the DR - Well, being married to a German, has given many oppurtunities to move there, but is has to much in the DR to give up -- family++++, friends++++ etc. She does not want to live in another country. But how do you prove this to them, if they do not even see you or interview you? If this friend is your boyfriend, the best chance is to get married and apply for landed immigrant status. If you need more information write me at my E-mail address above..... Good Luck....Nina nlopez@sprint.ca P.S. I am married to a Dominican - Way back 9 years ago it was much easier --- Where in the DR is your friend from?
