Renting a house/apartment in S.D

I was in S.D. august/september last year for some days. Im going again this summer in the end of june and staying for one month. I've heard something about renting a house or apartment. Has anyone ever tried that? What does one month of rent cost in a moderate house/apartment? Is it a good idea? Is there a better idea?
