You may become a citizen of the DR is you are born in the DR, one of your parents is Dominican, or are naturalized. To become a Dominican national by naturalization, you need to have resided in the DR for at least six months after obtaining your residency, have resided continually in the DR for at least 2 years, have resided in the DR for at least six months and formed a business or own real estate, have resided in the DR for at least six months and have married a Dominican citizen, served in the Dominican Armed Forces, participated in a DR agricultural colony, or have obtained a special concession fromt he President (for serving the DR with special merit).

The process is initiated by applying by letter to the Presidency via the Ministry of Interior and Police. You must submit: a non-delinquency certificate issued by the appropriate authority in the applicant's country of birth; birth certificate (translated by a judicial interpreter if not in Spanish) and notarized by the Dominican Consulate of the applicant's country of birth; explanation if the applicant's nationality at the time of application is not the country of birth; payment of RD$10; five 2"x 2" photographs. Also necessary is to submit a photocopy of the applicant's residence card which is proof the person has resided without interruption in the DR for two years; two certified letters from the DR's Immigration Department stating that the applicant resides in the DR and the applicant's file contains the warranty letter needed to grant residency according to the law; an additional warranty letter signed before a notary public by the person who assumes responsibility for the moral and economic status of the applicant; and in the case of a person applying for naturalization on the basis of owning Dominican real estate, a copy of the certificate of title of that property. Other fees apply if the naturalization is granted.
