Your visa will pay for most of your needs. Bring about US$200 in cash, and US$ travelers checks, as you will get a better exchange rate on these than on your Visa card.

I just got back and currency was trading from 15.80 - 16 pesos per US dollar. Don't expect to get better than a 13 peso return/US$ on your Visa card. I made the mistake of running up large charges and got killed. If you run out of cash there are bank machines and banco creditos from which you can draw pesos on bank and charge cards. I don't know how the machines work with european banks as I am from New York, however, the number of Europeans greatly outnumbered the Americans. You can also get money at most casinos. I took about $450 US and ended up going to the bank a few more times. I met a gentleman from England while there who said he was getting by on $20 US a day. So it all depends on your lifestyle. Although most money exchanges traded in all currencies, I found that US money was commonly excepted and valued. Have a great time.

Where do you recommend exchanging american dollars for pesos? I'll be staying at the Allegro Bavaro resort in Punta Cana. Do the resorts have good exchange rates or where do you recommend?? There are no casinos onsight and from what I understand there really isn't a town in this area.
