Default DR1.Immunizations recommended for travel in the DR????

I have read conflicting information on required/recommended immunizations for travel in the DR. My family will be primarily in the resort area of Punta Cana. We may do some one day excursions but do not plan to go out and about by ourselves. Do we need typhoid vaccine? hepatitis A?? Any others?? I understand that basic immunizations need to be up to date. What is the incidence of Malaria in this region?? Any other health information would be appreciated.

Come on... you are not going into the Amazon. I've been on vacation many times to the Dominican Republic and lived there with no problems. You will be fine!

Vaccinations recommended are tetanus, polio and hepatitis A. It is also recommended that you take malaria tablets although I didn't and was fine.

Dr. Nina when you respond to a question can you please drop the "attitude" and respond in a civil manner. These people are seeking advice; not admonishment for asking questions! How rude of you!

Just got off the phone with my doctor here in the U.S. I am going in tomorrow for Hepatitus A, Thyphoid, Tetnus and malaeria. Spelling????. I did travel to the DR last year in the Puerto Plata area and did not recieve any vaccinations and had no problems. I don;t really know why I even called my doctor this trip, but I have to go with my gut feelings and I will get the medicines tomorrow. Just my opinion, I am not a doctor nor do I suggest that just because I am doing it that you must.

Let me say that I have never read so much garbage in my life about immunizations, medications, etc. for travel to the DR. And, so many say my doctor said this and the other doctor said that when in fact, most physicians are not really up to date on what is required for travel outside of the USA! This may come as a shock, but I am a board certified physician from the USA and I am the first to admit I do not have the foggiest idea what is recommended for travel, say to, Laos. I know where to find this information, the CDC, Centers for Disease Control. If you want up to date information on health status and what is recommended medicinally prior to travel you should CONSULT A SPECIALIST IN PUBLIC HEALTH or contact the CDC. Quit asking questions from well intentioned misguided non medical persons. If you have a problem with your car, you ask a mechanic, not a surgeon. But, if you require surgery, you don't get advice from your auto mechanic!
