Default recent trip

Just got back from a week in D.R. Arrived in Puerto Plata, as it was the only way in that week. Stayed overnight at Hotel Sunshine. Price $250.00 RD per night (about $25.00 Canadian)at current rates. The place was clean and had television c/w cable, air conditioning and hot water. A restaurant was attached, so food was not a problem.

I visited with friends at JTV and was very impressed with the changes I saw. The whole atmosphere is much better than last time I went.

Travelled by bus to Santo Domingo next day and was amazed at the new highway. It took 3-1/2 hours to S.D. The bus was so cold, I had to get my jacket out in Santiago so I wouldn't freeze to death. They served coffee and snacks. It was a very good trip. Once in Santo Domingo I transfered to another intercity bus line to go to San Pedro (actually Juan Dolio) as I was staying at Coral Costa Caribe). Another uneventful trip and they let me off right at the new entrance on the main highway and security arranged for someone to get my bags for me.

Cost from P.P. to S.D. - 90 pesos. From S.D. to S.P. 25 (with air), express

Actually, the cost on the regular bus from Juan Dolio to S.D. is 15 pesos, but you can't get the express from the street.

Travelled to San Pedro next day to do some business and then back to S.D. This time had a chance to look around. If you didn't know about the hurricane, you would be hard pressed to notice it, but there are definitely signs. The amount of work done to repair and reconstruct is amazing. Also, they are extending this major highway right to the east coast it appears. The most amazing thing I saw was the giant tv screen on 27 de fevrero in S.D.

My stay at Costa Caribe was heaven. My room overlooked the small pool and the ocean. The room was sumptuous. They had a small problem with the hot water, but it was fixed quickly and I was kept advised. Everyone was most helpful. The staff was very courteous and friendly. The only thing I missed (and this is the same for most hotels now, unfortunately) was the fresh juices you use to get.
