The Faro is the monumental Lighthouse that the Balaguer government completed in 1992 to honor Columbus and his discoveries and to house his tomb (or mausoleum, depending on where you think he's really buried). It's a huge cross-shaped structure, located on the opposite side of the Ozama river from the old colonial zone, and it emits an enormous cross-shaped light into the night sky. It's become something of symbol of the city and is definitely worth a visit, not only for the tomb but for the museum and park that are part of the complex.
