first time trip to Dr advice please

hi,

me and my girlfriend from england are going to the Dr on april 4 for two weeks...

I'd like recommendations for hotels in any of the 'must see' places...we hope to travel around the whole island...

also, any tips on not attratcing mosquitos as my girlfriend is allergic to insect bites....i think you're not meant to wear perfume etc....?

When we arrive i think we'll stay in Boca Chica at the Zapata for a couple of nights....how far is this from S Domingo??

Also, can you travel into Haiti??

Boca Chica is half an hour from Santo Domingo. You can travel to Haiti by airplane (Air Santo Domingo) or bus Terrabus. Purchase Coppertone sunscreen and bug creme in one. It is sold in local supermarkets and many tourist shops. Should be readily available in Boca Chica. Great decision to see the whole DR. Hello,

We too want to travel for the first

time, to possibly Puerto Plata.

We are concerned about the crime rate,

safety issues, etc.

Do you have any info?

You will have a blast. The DR is so diverse it will be great to be able to see so much of it in one trip. I have heard that"skin so soft" by Avon (if they have that in london) is good to keep away sand flies. Don't go on the sand at or after dusk.

I too would recommend renting a vechicle. One place that I would visit if I were you is Los Terenece. It is on the North East coast. It is so beautiful and remote. Wonderful food. The best I have ever had. The drive is so beutiful. YOu drive up forever and finally you have the most beautiful few of the coast. Sousu is worth a trip to.

If you're thinking about travelling to Puerto Plata, good idea! We just returned from the Playa Naco Resort and it's one of the safest places i've ever been! Theft in the resorts is definitely not a big issue as for in the city, use your common sense, don't go walking around the city at night, in the daytime it's perfectly safe.
