Default Holy Week

Leaving this morning for DR. Read that we will be there during Holy Week and that there are bans being put up for the beaches. Does this also affect us as far as beach use, horseback riding, or water sports.

Depending where you go, yes. In Boca Chica last year, no motorized boats were permitted to leave from the beach. That meant banana boat rides, water skiing and scuba diving had to be cancelled. At one point the water became so crowded with people, that even the non-motorized craft such as paddle boats and wind surfers etc. were banned.

Bans on beaches regard to beaches that are not frequented by tourists. The crowds are for the most part on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, clearing out by Sunday pm. Some beaches get more people than others. The bans on motorized water sports are for the safety of the vacationers.

Does the North Resort area close down water sports (Puerta Plata area) This would destroy our vacation. Leaving Monday 3/28.

You will be in the DR at the peak holiday season for locals, sort of a July 4 weekend in the US. Unless you want to see crowds avoid Sosua Beach on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Playa Dorada should not be overcongestioned as it is such a long beach and mostly attended by people who stay at the hotels. There will be limits, especially on motorized watersports, on these beaches to keep the safety of the majority. Everything will be back to normal on Monday, 5 April.
