Diana....if, as your post script says, you're not trying to scare off tourists, keep in mind that there are sites on the internet where having your message translated is as easy as copy & paste.

Ohhh!, I see what you meant. I had a feeling that it was going to be a bad idea posting this message. But I'm so upset over these issue and wanted to express my feelings. I also wanted to see what other people have to say about this issue. Again I apologize for the misunderstanding.
Thank you again, Diana

Diana,
If you would post your original message in English, I'm sure that there are many of us who might have something to say about the issues you raise. Thanks Mia

Re: La policia!!!No entiendo!
I totally disagree with you. I lived in the United States for a long time and I wouldn't say that I was always looking over my shoulders because I thought someone was going to come and attack me, but I felt very lonely there. If something would have happened to me, let's say in some neighborhood, do you think anybody would have let me in, specially if they knew that I was hispanic? I don't think so. some guy was chasing me up and down the street one time and I finally got my cell phone out and start dialing and he finally left. But I was still looking around making sure he was not near by. There were children being killed by other children at school. There were parents killing their children. There were children killing their parents, and many, many, many other things. Now, I do realize, that in Santo Domingo, if you are not careful, people will still anything you have, and I mean anything, but I really don't see as much violence as in the States, ther is violence, of course, as everywere else, but not as much. Now I do agree with you about the policemen. I'm sorry, but I feel less secure when there's one around. But, you also have to understand that they haven't had an education, most of the time they don't even have a Highschool education, they don't get paid anything and at the end we can't compare them to the policemen in the U.S. One of the big reasons moving back to the D.R. was because of my children. Too many children missing, too many children getting killed, too many children doing drugs. Well, I could go on and on, but don't get me wrong, there are many things I miss from the states, but I personally feel safer here.

Re: La policia!!!No entiendo!
Dear Diana:
I understand your frustation and at some point I could be agreed with you. I left Sto. Dgo. Five years ago, well not exactly Five years, it'll be on July 31. when I left I could be in a dark place waiting for someone to give me a ride because I did not have car, (tu sabes que a ride es esperando una bola.), and reach home safelly. I don't know how much the situation has changed by what I can see by reading your post it's frighten now. I have the mayority of my family living in the DR and they don't tell me that the violence in our country is that bad. I talk to them every two weeks on the phone. They don't live in a residencial area but in a ordinary neighbor hood. I do want to believe on your story but I think you're exaggerating the situation. I'm sorry Diana but I'm desagreed at all with your comments. Diana you should have not posted or use this massage board to post such massage instead you could, if you feel that frustated, send an e-mail to the presidency of the DR. Those things are internal problems of the country and should be resolve inside of the country. The only thing you can get from this, once again forgive me if I'm offending you is not my intention, is to scare the tourists that come to this massage board to get a possive information from our country. I'm sorry Diana If I sound too patriotic to you. You're using a machine that is multilingual and anything can be transtaled, most Spanish that is one of the three most important languages in the world. On the other hand, I still consider that here in the state the violence is way up higher then my country. The last if you still feel like speaking out on this issue There is this a web site where you can e-mail to the president Leoner Fernandez on this. It is .
Don't be mad of me it just happened that you choose the wrong place to complain on this.
S.P. The reason I posted it in English is because I see people asking quetion where they can get your message translated and so they won't have too much complications trying to translate all this messages.

Re: La policia!!!No entiendo!
Claudia;
As far as VIOLENT crime goes, I agree with you 100%. The violence in parts of the U.S has become intolerable, but as you say, the "system" as a whole, works as well, if not better than any Nation in the World. Not always to everyones liking, but we have come a long way toward equality for all citizens, especially in the areas of free speech, equal rights etc., but we still have a long way to go before I or anyone one else would even consider saying the US treast all of it's citizens as equals.
The famous case of Brown v. Board of eduaction, it's cause of action being "seperate but equal" says much about what needs to be done. We ned to be "one and equal," not seperate and equal

Shouldn't all opinions be voiced, not just the so called "positive" ones?
