Default Question about Codetel Cellular Service

I arrived in the DR in early February and had my Cellular activated by Codetel. It took about 1.5 hours and cost 65 pesos to verify that it wasn't stolen, and 495 Pesos to activate. The cards were available in denominations of 45 - 245 pesos. Calls in Country were at the rate of 7 Pesos/min. and to the US 12 Pesos/min. I traveled about the Island and had reception in most areas. The reason I chose Codetel over Tricom was because of the broader service area. For example, Tricom doesn't work in Las Terrenas. Now for my QUESTION - I left the phone with a Friend and I will be returning on May 11. I think the last card that I programmed into the phone is now used up. How long do I have to put in another card before the phone dies and I have to have it reactivated? Thanks for your help. Jose'

Joe,

I plan to the same as you. Where did you get your cellular from and how much did it cost?

Thank you for the answer

Ronald

Ronald, I brought my phone from the US. I've found that so many people in the States are upgrading to Digital phones that Analog phones are easy to find and work well in the DR. You should be able to get one free from a friend or relative that has upgraded and isn't using their old phone any longer. There are apparently several Codetel offices in Santo Domingo, and probably Santiago where you can get activation. The Codetel offices in the small towns cannot activate the phones. Good Luck.

I have a cellular phone that I use in the USA and I also use the same phone when I'm in DR. ALL you have to do is take your cellular phone to Codetel or Tricom and they will activate your phone to be used in DR with prepaid cards. They give you a code # so when you return to USA you can activate back to your carrier here and do the same when you go back to DR. Of course, this is only good when you travel often to DR.

Where is the nearest Codetel office to Boca Chica where I may be able to connect to the prepaid service?
