I left the P.C. airport on Mar 4, 1999 and there was duty-free shopping along one wall of terminal. I don't know if there were more than these before the hurricane, but you could buy tobacco, perfume, jewelry, souveniers, etc.

Hi Trudy, we are leaving next week for Punta Cana. How did you find the prices at the airport boutiques compared to the hotel shopping areas including the markets? Where would the best buys be for perfumes, alcohol products, coffee, arts & crafts etc...? Thanks for your input, Claire ;-)

(TRUDY) The prices for rum ara about 2.50 to 4 us dollar white rum to brown the best. In Higue you can buy best but also on the airport. When and where are you to stay?

Default Shopping-Airport

I wish I had a better answer for you but I hardly even looked at the merchandise at the airport--I just could see from my seat that there were stalls available selling things. I did buy a carton of Marlboro's for US$15. I purchased some souveniers at the shopping mall in the Bavaro Beach complex and also at the tents set up by the Dominicans next to the Bavaro Palace complex. Enjoy your trip...I wish I were going back.

Hi Cornelis, thanks for your post. In response to your question, we are leaving on Easter day for 3 weeks, staying 1 week in Cortesito at the "Villas Los Corales" and 2 weeks at the "Melia Bavaro resort". I will post reviews on these hotels and others since I will be visiting a few while there. Claire;-)

claire when you stay at melia. there is the bavaro plaza for shopping when you want to buy reduce the price to 1/2. opposite the bank is a little shop to buy sigattes/sigars or rum. 130/?? rum 80 pesos this are nice prices almost like the airport in DR PC. for t-shirts pay not more then 100 to 140 pesos say you are leaving and have not more money take no more with you what to pay for. buy not whitout to try a lower price because they like to give you things and then you most pay a very high price for it. we are staying at Riu Taino in Punta Cana/Macao. hope you will like it like us (3thrd time). Greatings from cornelis and yvonne ;-);-)
