Default Health FAQ - Spend less time seated :-)

We have been asked many questions relating to travel related sickness and general health issues whilst travelling in the Dominican Republic. So we thought it was about time to put something together and get the answers from the people that should know.

We hope its of help and clears up some of the confusion.

All I have to say is that there are MANY gross errors in you answers to FAQ!I have neither the time nor the inclination to dissect each and every entry but only ask that the traveler or one who intends to travel to copy this list and show it to their reputable physician for his or her comments. Also, I have no intention of engaging in a "battle" of who is right and who is wrong. I stand on my reputation of 35 years in the medical profession.

I simply can not let this pass Robert since you put your big foot in your mouth! You mention Pan American Health Organization consulatant, BRITISH TRAINED gastroenterologist, FRENCH TRAINED pediatrician, U.S. TRAINED pathologist........etc etc.

Don't you have any trained Dominican physicians and if so, are they not worthy of note (aside from a couple of cosmetic surgeons)! I am serious. Is there not training programs in the DR?

All the persons mentioned first studied medicine in the DR. They latter went on to do postgraduate studies in the countries mentioned.

My God....we gave the Nobel Prize to the wrong man!Jonas Salk! For years it has been this individual credited with the research responsible for the development of the vaccine to erridicate polio as we have finally erridicated smallpox. By the way that was Jenner. But lets cut to the chase Dolores. I am more interested in a list of their PUBLISHED RESEARCH WORK in REPUTABLE MEDICAL JOURNALS. That is the fastest was to cut fact from fiction. And don't bore me with a curriculum vitae.....that is self agrandizement.

The Dominican public health system operates training programs in several specialties. These medics usually work in public hospitals. Nevertheless, the more reputable Dominican professionals have carried out specialty studies abroad.
