Default Is there an off-season?

The weather is fine for most of the year, but are there periods when there are less tourists and the vendors are less busy?

I'm going in August and would like to know if the pace is lower or just as high as in, say, the winter time.

After Easter and through Thanksgiving is generally considered the off-season and many places reduce their prices. April through November.

Jim is correct in that the resorts here consider the period from after Easter to December 15th as off season and adjust their rack rates accordingly. Due to school closing, there is a very strong demand during July and August which is reflected in the prices charged by tour operators in Europe and Canada. If school is not a consideration, my choice for off season travel to the DR would be November to early December. Past the main hurricane season and not as hot as the summer months.

Jim

Speaking of off season, I am in Playa Dorado for 3 weeks early July, is this a danger period for weather or is it early enough to avoid 'Hurricane Season'?

Wayne.
