At any chemist's you will find ' POOF' or 'OOF' It's a spray .Last time about a year ago I paid 319 DP. Don't try the locally produced repellent , you will anyway end up buying this one. Good luck with the mosquitos

If your body can stand it...what you want is 100% deet. Period. "Off" has a 100% deet product (i think they call it "deep woods"...but you will have to check.) Bring it with you, you will not find it in the DR easily (if at all).

Any repellent that contains DEET will do the job best (the active ingredient in OFF!). It is readily available in the DR but you may find it cheaper at home than at a store in a tourist area.

Joyce

I'm just going by the warnings on the labels and articles that have been published.

From your email address I would think you have much better resources?

There are lots of reefs right off the shore about 1/4 mile in the Punta Cana area. You'll have to take a 5-10 minute boat ride to get to them because most of the area right off the beach is just pure white sand, not too good for snorkelling. I just went snorkelling in Punta Cana a few weeks ago. It was good. All the hotels along the beach offer snorkel tours in the area and there are a few independents offering glass-bottom boat tours as well.

See the report at the link below.

I read an article recently which warned users of insect repellants to be aware of the varying degrees of DEET content. If you look closely, all repellants with DEET will provide you with the DEET content value....I'm not exactly sure what this means! However, I've since noticed DEET values ranging anywhere from 20 to 90. DEET, according to this article, is a cancer causing agent (like just about everything else, some might say) and any repellant with DEET content greater than 35 puts you at "greater risk", with NO added "protection" from insects. As for the kids, this article had nothing to offer. This info comes from a canadian outdoorsman magazine (the actual name excapes me).....take it as you please!
