Default entrance for minor

I have a question regarding getting my 8 year old into the D.R. I know that I have to have an notarized letter from my spouse because he is not going.. Do I need to send the letter to the D.R. consulate to get this approved, or will just a notarized letter suffice?Thank You!

The entrance to the DR without a parent is not a problem. It is for the unaccompanied departure that you will need paperwork. Following are the requirements.

Departure Authorizations for Minors Traveling without their Parents:

So that a minor of less than 13 years can leave the country without the company of one of his parents, the following procedure is necessary:

Deposit a power of attorney of one of the two parents legalized by the Procuraduría General de la República (Office of the Attorney General).

Two photos 2" x 2" of the minor.

Passport or authorized travel document and the birth certificate if the child is Dominican.

Passport or travel document of the person who will travel with the minor. Or if the minor will travel alone, a power of attorney authorizing the airline to transport the minor.

Stamp of the Dirección de Impuestos Internos for RD$33.60 for the permit. Payment of RD$30.00 for the procedure.

All documents, with the exception of the passport of which a photocopy is allowed, need be submitted in an original and a photocopy.

This is the documentation required for children who live in the DR to travel abroad. Not vis a versa.

We took our grandchild, age 13, to the DR about 5 years ago and all we had was a signed letter from the parents and his passport. It was our daughter's son and so his last mane was different from ours. We didn't even have to ever present the letter and we werre there for a month.
