surfing in the dominican republic

Hi, I was wanting to take a surf trip to the DR in late August and wanted some feedback on how the surf was at that time of the year. I've heard it's pretty inconsistent with only short 2-3 day swells from Hurricanes and that winter is the time to come. Could you please write me back and straighten me out on your lovely island.thanks,pat judd
