Default Calling the DR

Hi, I am from Illinois and I am trying to find the cheapest way to call my bestfriend who is in Santo Domingo for the entire summer. I found that using 10-10-297 was about 45 cents a minute. I was wondering if a calling card would be cheaper, but I know that he had taken a couple of calling cards down with him and they do not work in the DR, I didn't know if it would be the same for me calling there. Any suggestions would be appreciated! I was also wondering about the mail system. Any idea how long it would take for a letter to reach the DR from the United States? Thank you!

This subject has been discussed at great length in the past couple weeks. Do a search and you will learn about all the options.

I have been using teh IDT since last week to call, and it is about .24/minute. As far as mail, it has taken me as long as 3 weeks to get a letter there, however most of my mail is averaging 5-7 business days. Have mailed stuff on Friday and they recieved the folowing friday. about the same time coming this way. Jerry

Any long distance provider will sell you an 800 number. I have a couple myself. I'm not sure how that applies to calling the DR though. They range from free with minimum usages to about US$10/mo.
