Default Budget apartment?

Is it possible to rent an apartement for about 150 USD a month in Santo Domingo? It doesn't need to be big and fancy, just a bed (for 2 persons), a small kitchen and a shower/bath?

Me and my girlfriend is thinking of going to the DR for a month or two and would like to rent an apartment, instead of staying at a hotel. We don't need a high standard apartment, just a little place to sleep and wash up, and perheps make some food.

Thanks - Kristoffer

A place can be had for that rate, but not a place I would consider staying at if it is furnished and includes utilities for that price. You may run into a problem renting at that rate for such a short term as many want 6 months rent up front. The location will greatly affect price as well. Expect a noisy or remote location at that price.

Hi Jim, I'm looking for a small place (two beds), shower, clean but not fancy in the Puerto Plata area and I'm willing to pay $300 Canadian for the week of June 26 - July 3. Any contacts, ideas?

You will find a lot of information about the North Coast at www.hispaniola.com.

I suggest Sosua by the Sea in Sosua. It is nice and right in your price range. See the review at the link below and also check out their web site at http://www.caribecom.com/hotel/sosuabts/sbts.htm.

If you want to be right on the Malecon in PP, try LOMAR Apart Hote.. You should be able to get a nice room for about 200-225 per week

I would suggest one of the MANY Apart-Hotels that offer efficiencies and one or two bedroom apartments. You don't have the problem of 3 or 6 months deposits like a regular apartment. You also usually have security, desk clerk and phones plus other amenities and you don't have to pay extra for utilities. These can run anywhere from $200 to $800 per month depending on location, and amenities.
