Yes, I stayed in Hotel Sosua 6 months ago. It's a nice, small and 'plain' hotel. The location in Sosua is excellent! You can walk to the beach in 5 minutes and all shopping, etc. is near by. The rooms vary quite a lot. If you're not happy with the one they give you, ask for another and they'll do their best to change (at least they did for us). Don't expect any service... apart from basic cleaning etc. Their phonesystem is bizarre... From the rooms it's difficult to call abroard/recieve calls. There's a nice little garden, a nice café and the people are truly nice. I don't know about the rates - I went on a packaged trip... but I wouldn't expect it to be more than 25$ a person. Have a great trip.

Well, I took a trip down to Sosua in 1990 and it wasn't that great. If you call vendors at the top of the beach (brochures don't show you THAT) and people walking around you to buy things like hungry animals. I had an 8 year old boy walk along the beach with us pointing to differnt trees and things...then he had the gall to ask us for $10 US and when we asked him what it was for, he replied that this was the price of our "tour"...yeah right I said and gave him a dollar to get lost...tourists there are victims of all kinds of scams. Some advice, If you take a taxi anywhere, negociate for a round trip fare and pay the driver when you COME BACK TO YOUR HOTEL. DO NOT PAY UP FRONT FOR THE DAY...you might find yourself paying another taxi to take you back to your hotel afterwards....not fun and can be expensive. Then again, my advice can be worthless since I went to the DR almost 10 years ago.

Things have changed!! I found that the Dominican people were most friendly and not trying to take advantage.... just use common sense and treat them like you want to be treated!!
