Default Fishlife in danger of extinction

It was good to read in DR One (June 21, '99) that the President has issued a decree banning the capture of conch, cotorron & futay during the period July 1 through October 31. There is no doubt that the reefs are being fished out, from my observations and from fishermen themselves who take even the smallest fish they can spear. It is most disturbing that poisonous effluent from mining operations has decimated river fishlife. The heavy use of pesticides will no doubt have to be curtailed through Government action in areas such as Costanza which has no drainage, so the chemical buildup is appreciable. By the way, can anybody tell me what "Cotorron & Futay" are? Thanks! Canadian Bob.
