Default Bike Riding in Santo Domingo

I am going to Santo Domingo and was thinking of bringing my mountain bike to get around a little(I will be down there for a few months) Does anyone have an opinion on this, whether or not it is safe. Are there many people on bikes in S.D.? Any opinions appreciated.

Default Re: Bike Riding in Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo (the capitol city) is very unsafe for biking. What the hell am I saying? It is very unsafe even if you are driving a Mack Truck.

The only exception are parks such as "Mirador del Sur" or residential neighborhood. Some remote rural roads (caminos vecinales) may be okay also if they are paved.

I used to do a lot of biking every time that I went there to spent my vacations but I gave up after facing some scary close encounters with some of the most unruly and inconsiderate drivers in the whole world (that is even after taken in consideration Philadelphia, New Jersey and Miami dare-devils).

However, if you decide to do it any way, get good medical insurance coverage and... update your will :-)
