Default Mujer Sin Rostro

I would like to know what is the significance of La Mujer Sin Rostro. I have to bring in some art work to my office that is typical of the Dominican Republic. My mother has several of these figurines, mostly received as gifts, but we do not know the story behind it. Please reply. LP.

Default Re: Mujer Sin Rostro

As a dominican myself, what I have been told about the significance of La Mujer Sin Rostro is that it represents the diversity that exists in the Dominican Republic. Some non-Hispanics have the misconception that everyone in the Dominican Republic is of one color and that we all have similar features. But as you may know, and anyone that has been to the Dominican Republic, there are people of all colors, all living together as one group of people. So the doll without the face represents that, that we are all beautiful human beings no matter the color of our skin, our differences in our appearance, our social background, etc. We are all the same-- human beings. In my opinion, the doll should be used to represent all nations.
