Default Punta Cana resorts...

Hi again :-)

I read a trip report on Paradisus and saw gorgeous pics. I just had to send for a brochure to get the full affect. Boy is it gorgeous! And expensive!!!!!!!

I also read a trip report on the Bavaro Palace? Does that sound right? It too sounds like the sister to three or four resorts I think, this one being the best.

Can anyone tell me more?

Thanks in advance,

Carol

You could read a description of just about any all-inclusive resort in the country and they would all sound about the same so you need the perspective of reviews written by the same person in order to make comparisons. Almost all resorts follow the same format of operation and the biggest difference will be cost and quality, quality being a very subjective thing to describe.

For the most part, they all have a nice beach, have buffets and a-la-carte restaurants, include all national brand drinks, have nice pools, put on shows at night, etc. In fact, this is true with the resorts throughout the Caribbean, not just the Dominican Republic. Reading the reviews, one person says it is the best, another says it is the worst, sometimes having stayed together at the same place at the same time. Go figure. Different people place importance on different components and have different expectations.

I would like to know if the Auberge La Catalina, located in Cabrera, has an email address or a fax number. Thank you.

Why is it that Grupo Punta Cana (owners of Punta Cana Beach Resort) gets away with selling property without delivering the corresponding titles within a reasonable period of time?

We bought at the Marina over two years ago, paid the purchase price in US$ in cash, paid our DR taxes an still no titles and no explanation ...

There is more .... If you wish to know ...

Hi Jim :-)

I see your point LOL!

However if I were to state what I'm looking for in a resort, would that narrow it down?

Here goes: Nice pool, aqua water in the ocean, white sand, gorgeous rooms and overall hotel. Great service, tastey food, drinks, entertainment, great night clubs for dancing and American music included for my daughter. No bugs in the room that we sleep in, nice and clean and well kept. We love nightlife and don't want to be bored in the evenings. Did I narrow it down a bit? :-) Oh yes, a casino nearby and snorkeling for the hubby.

Almost every place offers some combination of these things. Your best bet is to just read my various reports and decide which sounds the best and where you want the emphasis, or take a chance on someone else'e report and opinion. What I like may not be what you like. Pick one or two of these things for emphasis and I can better direct you.

I've read so many reports about various hotels written by other people and how great the place was and how good the food was and then I when I arrived I thought, these people writing these reports don't get out much. Everybody seems to have their favorite, but when you hear reports like "Every thing was great. The food was great. The service was great. The beach was beautiful. The night life was excellent. You'll love it", beware.

Most of my reports can be found right here on DR1 in the Resort database. There are a few others that are older and 1 about a place in Barbados that can be found at http://caribtravelnews.com/c0798_03.htm#barjim.
