Default Ditching the US to live in the DR

I am an American (citizen) born in the US and have lived here all my life. I am 35 years old, financially OK (not rich, but OK), and absolutely fed up with the corporate rat race I work in. I am also tired of my neighborhood, my government, my neighbors, my friends, and just about everything. I would love to just chuck everything and pack up and move to the DR and live there the rest of my life.

So.. some questions....

Can this even be done? Do I give up my US citizenship and become a citizen of the DR? How do I go about looking for employment? Is this a crazy idea? I need feedback from someone, anyone, who can provide decent knowledgeable answers. Then I may have some followup questions.

I'd rather you post here, than email me, although you're welcome to email me if you need to. THANKS.

Most of the information you seek on moving to the DR can be found in the Living in Santo Domingo book that is available on this web site. After 25 years of answering questions similar to the ones you have, we decided to put the answers together in a book, Living in Santo Domingo.

Kevin,

Yes it can be done and it isn't crazy at all. I've been doing it for almost 6 years and know many others who are expats living here. You do not need to give up your US citizenship and you may or may not apply for Dominican residency.

How you make a living is entirely up to you. Being a rapidly developing country there are many opportunities. I suggest you spend some time here and seriously explore the options.

I'd be happy to answer your questions. I suggest you email me.

This is NOT a crazy idea. I too am planning to relocate there some day hopefully soon. I have lots of freinds and family there so I think it will be a little easier to do. My wife is Dominican so this also helps. If you would like to email me to discuss this further please feel free.
