Re: Nightilfe in Porta Plata
There are a couple of discos on the Playa Dorada Complex, the Andromeda at the Heaven's hotel, The Crazy Moon at the Paradise, and Disco Tops. These are fun places, and you get to meet different people from all over the world because it's a mixture of the tourists and the Dominicans. If you go into the city and if you like bacchata music, I recommend La Barrica. Its not the nicest place but the music is really good there. Theres also the Orian, and another one but I can't remember the name that are also in the city. Have fun!!!

Re: Nightilfe in Porta Plata
The best night life is in the PlayaDorada area and I suggest you check out Andromeda in Hotel Heavens it has one of the best d.j.'s in PuertoPlata. Like Stacey posted you also have Tops Disco and Crazy Moon, the one's in the city are fun but just so that you know most of the locals hang out at them so just keep this in mind. MOST OF ALL HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME AND ENJOY EVERYHTING ABOUT DOMINICAN REPUBLIC AND PUERTO PLATA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Nightilfe in Porta Plata
I respectfully disagree that the best nightlife is in Playa Dorada. Andromeda, Crazy Moon and Hemingway's are all fun, but they're no match for La Barrica, which is right on the highway at Avenida Colon; or Ode, which is on the Malecon; or even Orion, which is in the Old City. Also, there's a line of outdoor bars at Long Beach on the corner of the Malecon and Avenida Hermanas Mirabal. If you're looking for a mellow hang where you can hang out with some interesting people and have great mixed drinks and food, I'd head over to Cafe Cito, which is a great outdoor courtyard on Calle San Felipe, near the Parque Central. There are also a couple of watering holes that are good: Sam's Bar and Grill can be fun if you want to hang around with expats; and a great little pub called Fat Eddy's just closed, but I understand it's been re-opened under the name Annie's Bar & Grill.
You can't do better than Puerto Plata for nightlife. Well, maybe in Santo Domingo.

Re: Nightilfe in Puerto Plata
I've toured through Cabarete, Sosua, Playa Dorada, and Puerto Plata. I found Sosua had the best night life, and a LOT more of it. In fact, people (locals and tourists alike) go to Sosua at night from the other 3 places. There are about 4 huge discos and lots and lots of small bars. The city is alive with life at night, 7 nights a week. All 4 places have their share of night life, each with a bit of a different style.
Cafe Cito is not what I would call a place for night life (See link below). The food was good there. It it has been fixed up, drop in for an unhurried meal.

Re: Nightlife in Puerto Plata(Jim)
I will be in Costambar next month. Anything good over there, or is it true that it is mainly a residential area? How far from Costambar to Sosua, and what are the names of the discos that are good over there?

Re: Nightlife in Puerto Plata(Jim)
Costambar is primarily a residential location although there are pubs in the area, no discos that I know of. Try Sandy's Beaches-Music on Wednesdays, I Think. Sam's Bar & Grill in Puerto Plata has Jazz & Blues live on Thursdays 6-9 and Sunday's 4-7 The guitarist is being joined by others these days and might include Sax, harmonica and who knows what else.

Re: Nightlife in Puerto Plata(Jim)
Yesss...Las Barricas rocks - always left there at about 7:00 a.m. - City is fully alive with sun shining brightly so bring your sunglasses with you or you'll be sorry! As far as Sosua goes - it depends on the tim eof year and which kind of tourists are in town. Unfortunately I happened to be there in the summer at the same time as with what looked plane loads of older euorpean men looking to 'spend some time' with local talent. Basically they took over every good club, so we travelled to Peurto Plata every night instead, via the transportation for our hotel staff! Had a much better time there. Have a great time. I vcan't wait to be back (August!!)

Now what is this suppose to mean? Why should that even be brought up as a concern? If thats the way you feel about the locals then please do stay in the compound, as a matter of fact why bother going to the DR why not stay in Hilton Head or Tampa, they too have nice beaches.
