internet sites in DR

My brother-in-law (Dominican) tells me Codetel and others charge a monthly fee and a minute fee for internet use. Is it possible to go on any sites with only the monthly fee? Thanks, J.

For residential use, I believe that codetel offers a VIP plan which is unlimited usage. Commercial sites are charged monthly and by the minute.

A basic account with Codetel costs RD$275/mo. + RD$0.18/min. (about US$17/hr. + US$0.011/min.).

For convenience, I included the equivalent prices in US Dollars, using RD$15.8/US$1.

Please advise current contact to obtain rate sheet for Internet services in the Dominican Republic. Is there a web site or email address? Is there a way to get an AOL or other U.S. account for use there?
