Iberostar Punta Cana Next Week.. Any Advise?

Just want to know what I can expect, and what I can do to have an enjoyable time here. What does anyone recommend for the evening nightlife? Should we stay at out hotel? I have seen good and bad reports about the hotel. Also any Must Do's and Dont's will help me plan my first tip trip to Punta Cana.

I am going to the Iberostar Dominicana in mid-August and would love to know how your vacation was. Thanks!
