Default Any Breathtaking Waterfalls

I was wondering if there were any breath-taking Waterfalls or rivers to explore while visiting the DR? If so, are there any near the Southeast side of the island?

Also, does anyone know about the Caves and Penon Gordo?

Stay at Alto Cerro hotel in Constanza and take the excursion to visit Aguas Blancas. This is in the central mountains. You can rent a car to get there. Of course, you will need to spend the night.

If when you come the Elupina ferry is working, rent a car and visit Las Terrenas or Las Galeras in Samana, taking the trip to the El Limón waterfalls. You can hop across from Sabana de la Mar to Samana and then take the road to las Terrenas. I suggest you overnight. You can stay at Portillo, Tropic Banana or many other small hotels.

Be advised that if you go to the waterfall at el Limon the people there will try to rip you off. We have stopped recommending to our guests to visit this site because of numerous complaints. The most recent was only 2 weeks ago when two of our guests wanted to walk from the main road up to the 'falls and were told that a guide was necessary and would cost them $600 RD. After much discussion, they were allowed to proceed alone, but on the way back, they were told they were on private property and it would cost them pesos to be able to leave. Again after a lot of argument, they were allowed to leave but only after paying $100 pesos. If you or anyone wishes to verify this, I will be glad to provide the guests' e-mail address in Stockholm. As the owners/operators of a small hotel here in Las Galeras, we see a lot of this go on between Dominicans and unsuspecting tourists whether its waterfalls, taxi prices, locally produced souveniers, etc. It's unfortunate as it gives the Dominican a bad reputation and sends future tourism elsewhere.

Several hotels in the Samaná area will offer organized excursions to El Limón (for example was at El Portillo and they had an excursion there). Ditto, the Hotel Alto Cerro in Constanza offers the excursion to Aguas Blancas. Will check into the claim that a official guide is necessary.

What's the name of the waterfalls on the north coast (about half an hour or so drive from playa dorada)where a lot of the jeep safaris stop. The one that's about a half an hour walk from the road to the falls. It's a breathtaking falls with twenty or more levels to climb, with natural water slides between each level.....the local kids will help you up to about the seventh, apparently after that it gets to dangerous. Anyone know the name of this falls??

Thanks, Mark
