Default Punta Cana

I will be vacationing at the Allegro Bavaro Resort in Punta Cana in a couple of weeks. I have never been to the Caribbean before and am not sure what to expect (besides the clear blue waters I've seen in brochures). Can anyone give me any info on this resort or stuff to do in Punta Cana?

Thanks! claudette

Tourists visiting Punta Cana should have as top priority relaxing, practicing water sports, and above all enjoying a great beach. Night life is not outstanding, most is provided by the animation staff. Most of those who visit Punta Cana are couples, although you will meet some singles. Check out the Barceló Bavaro disco and the Riu disco. Most excursions will take half a day or a whole day.

There are a lot of 'excursions' to choose from. If you like boats and sailing then I would recommend the Isla Saona excursion. It is an extra $70 USD, but well worth it! It is an all day excursion that begins with a bus ride, then a speed boat ride, about three hours on the island (where the movie Blue Lagoon was filmed) with lunch, and then an hour and a half catamaran ride back to the buses. Also there is snorkeling and diving lessons available at most of the hotels. My sister and I had a GREAT time!! I hope you do too!!

Another excursion that my wife and I enjoyed was the full-day jeep safari. The cost was US $75 and included lunch. We visited a sugar cane plantation, visited a Taino museum, a small town in the mountains that is without electricity and running water but manages just fine, a fruit plantation in the mountains where we were treated to a plentiful sampling of all kinds of freshly cut fruit, a visit to a ranch in the mountains where we went on a horse ride and had lunch, capped off by a visit to a virgin beach. A great day! I hope you have the opportunity to try it.
