Default Restaurant Recommendation / Search

Folks, anyone kind enough to recommend a restauraunt and bar within walking (3 km) distance from the Hotels, Santo Domingo and Hispaniola. Nothing fancy, but clean, good eats and Presidente. Mind you, if I have too.....oo much Presidente, I will not be walking back.

Thanks, PJT

There is a new restaurant, just opened, just after you pass to Vesuvias, Fairway Bar and Grill. They have excellent steaks and cold Presidente. It is basically "Meat and potatoes" (or Plaintains) but the meat is very good and well prepared.

Larry, thanks for the recommendation, meat and potatos sounds find, just might go there. I remember my first time to the island went to a restaurant ( steak and potatos )that had an American Cowboy atmosphere. The waiters were dressed up in cowboy garb; ten gallon hats, chaps, boots and plaid shirts. Problem was, it was all atmosphere. The beef had the texture of their boot leather. We sent it back to the kitchen and opted for fresh fish. Dining is never dull.

If you want good Dominican food, there are two places on either side of Vesuvio's and Vesuvio's Pizzeria (which, by the way, is not as expensive as Vesuvio's and has the best pizzas in Santo Domingo). Palacio del Mofongo has good food and ice cold beer, an open-air terrace looking out at the ocean. There's another, more kitchy, one on the other side, I believe its called Fogarate, but I could be mixing it up with another restaurant. Anyway, it's a bit more expensive but the food is more varied. The singing, dancing waiters can sometimes be a bit annoying, though.

Sean, thanks for the lead. If??? I have (more than)a few Presidentes, I will probably be singing and dancing along with the waiters at the Fogarate.
