Anybody familiar with laws and lawyers in DR?

Dear reader!

I`m not familar with the laws and structuring of rights in the DR. So I have a question about the lawyers in the DR. My friend and me want to marry. But is married, so we went to a lawyer to apply his divorcion. This was in may 99, the lawyer told us it needs not more than 1,5 month. I think it was a mistake to pay the whole sum of money, because now the lawyer is not working. He evertime tells my friend he has to wait for his divorcion.(We have no problems with his ex, she has firmed the papers)But for all that, nothing happens. So now my question is, what can we do, that forces the lawyer to work? Has somebody an idea? Or is there in institucion where we can complain? Thanks alot for helping Silke F.

I have nearly the some problem with you. my friend told me, now he has changed the lawyer, because he has done nothing, he tooks only the money, but our situation is a little more difficult, because my friend's wife is a "miststück". if you like you can email me.

Try Pellerano and Herrera...they work for our firm in the US and are very reputable as well as good, I am not sure of their rates, however.
