Default VISA to enter U.S.

Where can I find info on how to help a DR citizen get a visa to the US for a trip. I seems its not very easy. Also if I married a DR woman in the DR what are the steps to bring her to US. Is that the way to go. Thanks...

Default Re: VISA to enter U.S.

From what I have found out, a spousal visa is about 18 months (give or take). I have heard people whose fiancee visa has taken anywheres from 4-9 months. Below is a link to the state departments visa site. For a tourist type visa, it is hard because they have to prove they will return to DR. They prove this by having money in the bank, house, and other "ties" to the DR. I am just learning about this stuff.

Rich B. Iwas married to a lady from the D.R. in november 98.When I returned to the states I filed our paper work with the department of immi- gation and naturalization. This was in january 99 our final appointment with the embassy is the end of september. If you are going to marry in the D.R. you need to go prepared,it will save you a lot of time.Contact the immigartion office for your area and tell them you are getting married and they will send you the correct papers. You need to fill these out together and be sure to do exactly as they say or it will cost you alot of time. Then you mail the papers to he INS.office for your area, after the have completed thier work on you papers the will be sent to the national visa center where you start all over again with them .Your wife will be sent more paper work to fill out and you may have to fill out another affidvit of support. After all this paper work is done your file is then sent to the U.S. embassy in Santo Dominigo. good luck
