lost divorce papers-HELP!
My mother is trying to obtain a copy of her divorce papers so that she can receive money from the Social Security Administration on behalf of her third husband who was murdered in 1995. My father(second husband) obtained the divorce from a lawyer that had a practice in the Dominican Republic, (we think Santa Domingo). The year (we think) was either 1973 or 1974. Neither my mother nor my father can find their original copies though they both remember having a copy many years ago. My mother is disabled and desperately needs this income yet Social Security is adamant about her "proving" her divorce. Her name at the time of divorce was Sheila Jean Polansky Selig. My father's name is Michael Scott Selig. I am posting this message hoping that someone may have record of this divorce or can direct us to a source of records. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
