The question does not make sense. What is it specifically you are trying to find out?

There is no encryption used by cyber cafes or by Codetel or Tricom except encryption that is specific for any application. Encryption only works if both parties at either end of a conversation are using it, so it must be agreed upon and implemented ahead of time.

For example, if I make a phone call via Codetel, my call is NOT encrypted. If I make a transaction at an automatic teller machine, the transaction IS encrypted (via hardware).

thanks for yelling at me i was only asking a question, encryption is either 40 bit or in the states they have 128 bit which is used for finance banking etc. browsers automatically have a certain bit encryption explorer, netscape and whatever i would like to know what is is down there. a person only needs to go to help on the top of screen and click on about explorer or about netscape. i need an answear but not a wise answear i tought this board was about helpng people. more info or clarity would have been sufficient.

There are a myriad of encryption schemes in the DR and the world. The 40-bit vs 128-bit refers does not refer to the TYPE of encryption but to the LEVEL or "strength" of encyrption, hence, the difficulty in decoding it.

Some browsers have SSL encryption libraries (secure sockets layer) installed and the number of bits used will vary from machine to machine depending on what version of the SSL libraries were installed.

Since much of the software in use in the DR (and throughout the world) are illegal copies, there is no way to know ahead of time, what the SSL bit level is. I myself have different machines running IE 4.0 and IE 5.0 under Windows 95, 98, and NT4.0, some with 40-bit and some with 128-bit SSL.

I'm not sure if 128-bit SSL is legal to export outside of the USA.

Default Depends on the Cyber Cafe...

I would check when you go to use the browser. At a guess I would say the majority are 40 bit.

128 bit ssl is not legal outside of US and Canada without an export license. I was talking to microsoft about building a computer for a friend in Santo Domingo and and they passed on the following site. As long as I was not reselling or installing software that was on the not to export list, then I was okay.
