What do those who tell you that you are mad to take a two year old to the DR fear? I don't know where you live, but I would be more afraid to take the child to any of the larger cities in the US than to the DR. Go and enjoy.

I was in the DR in March. Met a couple travelling with their two children. Their daughter was two at the time and she looked perfectely healthy and was enjoying the pool very much. Just be sensible, like you would at home. Enjoy.

Why would someone say this? Sure you got to be careful about the water with the baby, but that's about it for danger that I can think of!! What a silly thing to say...

We took our 11 month old and stayed for 2 weeks. We had no problems at all. The dominican people just love kids also. Go and have a good time. We went from LaRomana to Sosua and to dominican homes and ate with them and was all ok. Almost everyone will get the craps just in the change of food and drinks. Just Go have the time of your life as we did there. Laura.

I have taken my 2 yr old several times to say in a house with no running water. Because the heat and sun affect little ones more than adults it is wise to give them pedialite mixed with bottled water. The pharmacies in the DR carry lots of it since that is what the locals give there kids, so you don't have to pack the unwanted weight with your luggage.

The Dominican Republic is children friendly and so are resorts. Your child will have the best of all times. See our health page for special recommendations when traveling with children. What you have most to fear is sun burn.

You're going to a hotel, so you won't have many problems. And just use your common sence, you will probably enjoy your stay a lot.
