As for information about Juan Dolio, I've been 2 times and planning on going again in March. It is a very beautiful place. Lots of hotels and tourists. Many shops and restaurants. However, the beach is very young as it's a new area being used as a tourist place. I suggest you visit it. The people are very nice.
It's a must see place. But be careful, on the beach there are Dominicans selling all sorts of items, i.e. music tapes (at a higher price than normal shops), jewellery, shoes, etc. NEGOTIATE if you plan to buy. There are also women doing beads in hair. Be polite but firm if you do not wish to have beads put in you hair.

Isn't Pointe-a-Pitre in Guadeloupe ? I've been there in March. It's kind of far from Juan Dolio.
