the short green grass on the beach under the palms, is there a name for that sort of grass? it is sparser than regular grass and yet the individual blades are thicker.

Default Re: re: flora/is there a botanist on board?

I'm a nature freak myself and have very little knowledge of tropical vegetation.

Does anyone know of a good book or a thorough website describing in detail the flora - and fauna - found in the Dominican Republic?

Regards, Susanne

Tony,

It may be "centipede",...or at least thats what we call it in the states. There's a lot of it here in the DR and its primarily used on golfcourses and anywhere else its hard to mow.

Regarding Susanne's suggestion about a good botanist's book, I wish I had one also, as there is a lot of interesting flora here that we don't have back in my homestate of Florida. Andy
