Default Boca Chica - New Years Eve

I am visiting and staying in the Boca Chica area Dec. 28 thru January 3rd with a few visits to Santo Domingo for night life. I have been told that Boca Chica is dirty and grungy by others who have gone before me. Since I have already prepaid for the trip, I am understandably quite concerned. What are the members take on Boca Chica (I am staying at Zapata by the way} and what are must sees and do's in the Boca Chica area? I am already very familiar with Santo Domingo, having visited there last July. Don't need info on SD unless it is New Year's Eve related.

By the way folks, DON'T DRINK THE WATER. A group of 11 of us went to SD last July and drank "purified water" at the Hotel Juaragua, then all of us became violently ill with E-coli. I never experienced pain like that in my life. It's like giving birth but nothing comes out and you writh in pain for hours if not days until it subsides. DRINK ONLY BOTTLED WATER. DON'T USE ICE IN YOUR DRINKS, AND DON'T DRINK MIXED ALCHOLIC BEVERAGES. YOU WILL REGRET IT.

Boca Chica is an OK town, but I do prefer Santo Domingo or Puerta Plata over Boca Chica. Be careful, I have been pickpocketed in Boca Chica (probably my fault anyway.)

I have stayed at the Juaragua at least 50 to 75 nights and have never heard of any problems with the water. It is regretable that your party had problems, but it is wise to follow simple precautions like you said.

Have a great stay and enjoy yourself.

Boca Chica is a small beach town. There are parts that are grungy and there are parts that are nice. The beach is spectacular. It all depends of what you are looking for. I think its a great place to party and prefer the area around the Zanibar
