Follow the DR1 Daily News posts. We are keeping a close watch on the hurricane. You should have enough time to abort your trip. Note the forecasted track takes it north of the DR.

We are going to Punta Cana on Sunday are very nervous. The storm may miss the area, but what about the flight there? We will have to fly right into the storm and I know they won't do that.

You should keep monitoring Jose, for good information try www.intellicast.com Right now Jose is a menace to Puerto Rico, all US virgin islands and Puerto Rico are under hurricane watch. Don't take chances, I live in Miami and we just went through Irene, and believe me it is not a very nice experience specially when you are not prepared.

The last forecast for the hurricane Jose is Puerto Rico. (USATODAY)So according to my lastyears expierience with George this hurricane could well come into the DR at the end of this week. Me as local would not be very happy with it. Travellers may check close to the regulary updated news, as for the flights chedule ore just go somewere else, because after the hurricane cames the heavy rain season! So this might be a good reason for changeing your tickest! Good luck!

Yes Karen. I am supposed to travel from Miami to Puerto Plata tomorrow so I'm watching it very close. I'm optimistic that the hurricane will go north of DR but you never know. I may get there just in time to go through it. I live in North Carolina and after all the recent hurricanes that have hit us, I feel like a hurricane magnet.

Folks,

My latest media check at 16:32 hrs (4:32 pm) eastern time, U.S.; has the hurricane tracking towards Puerto Rico and the eastern islands. It is not an immediate threat to the D.R. Don't worry!

The only concerns a traveler to the Dominican Republic may have at this time is,if their air transport has a stop over in in transit to the island at San Juan, P.R. The storm may interfere with airline schedules. For example, American Airlines does have scheduled stop overs and connecting flights to the D.R. via San Juan.

If you do transit to the D.R. by the way of San Juan and if it (San Juan)is being threatened, you want to check your flight options with the airline or your travel agent. Be advised to keep an eye on weather reports. Check this website often, someone usually will volunteer information to assist you.

Regards, PJT

The DR may be spared a direct hit, but connections through San Juan could be a big problem. Weather could be pretty wet for 3-4 days also

Default Re: prepare for the worst & hope for the best

That is the saying we have for hurricanes - prepare for the worst and hope for the best. They are unpredictable. It doesn't hurt to prepare for any possible event and then to get lucky as one passes by without having struck your area, but it does cost dearly to underestimate the odds and not prepare only to have the thing swerve suddenly and hit head on causing lots of preventable damage. It must be remembered also that when they talk about "it" they mean the small part called the eye, and often don't mention the large whole which is a much wider swath of high winds and heavy rains, lightening and possible tornadoes. Batten down your hatches for the next couple of days - which means make things secure.
