cell phones in DR

We will be travelling in the DR in a few weeks, and we were wondering about cellular service. Can we bring our own cell phone and purchase a prepaid cell phone card, or is our only option to rent a phone? Thanks in advance for your help!

Gary & Christine - it is easy and pretty cheap to rent a cell phone. There is at least one business I know of in Sosua that rents the phone for about $3 usd a day but you have to buy a phone card to have air time. Because of the unpredictability of dominican phone lines, I would suggest something like that.
